We are continuing with Chapter 6 The United States. Today we discussed the U.S economy and of all the challenges it is faced with. Thursday we will have a big review to prepare for the test on Friday. On Wednesday each of the students will select a state to do a report on. I will have a rubric for them to use as a guide.
As I write this I am sitting in the gym watching the girls compete against Germantown Middle in a very tight basketball game. I hope they do better than our boys did!!!

We finished studying the geography of Tennessee on Friday. I was very impressed with the results of the tests the students took. Well done!

On Monday we will begin Unit 2 The United States and Canada. Chapter 6 will deal with the US. We will be learning, studying, and reviewing all types of maps-physical, political, climate, population, land use and resources. On Friday the students will receive an outline for their next project. Look for that information in their Geography notebook.

I just want to say “thank you” for making this a very successful first nine weeks. Working with your child on homework, aiding in the organization of a project, or helping to study for a test, has made your child’s learning a true partnership. Keep up the good work!

Tennessee Geography-Study for test tomorrow. Use the book that you have put together for the last week and a half. Be sure to go over the vocabulary and know the six regions of Tennessee. We had a huge review today.

RED RIBBON WEEK is next week. Every day there will be something different to wear. On Tuesday we can wear red shirts, on Wednesday we can wear team jerseys, on Thursday we wear tennis shoes, and on Friday we wear jeans and SFMS t-shirts. I hope everyone takes part.

Pictures-I have four students who have not returned their pictures. Please turn them in by tomorrow

I have pushed the Tennessee Geography out a little to allow for more time on certain topics.  I will let you and the students know when it has been scheduled.

Today we read and discussed the natural resources of Tn., and of its products.  We worked on a product map.  There are a few that did not finish.  The map is to be completed for homework.

Tomorrow is the last day to bring in picture money.  Pictures should be returned if not purchasing the series.

See you tomorrow.

Sorry I haven’t been “blogging” lately.  The end of the 9 weeks is tomorrow and I have been getting grades in the computer finalized.  I apologize to those that tried to get on to Powerschool but could not due to the program being shut down so often and for so long.

We are going to start studying Tennessee geography.  We have already discussed the physical features, The 3 Grand Divisions, and the 6 regional areas.  Over the next couple of weeks we will be putting together a Tennessee book.  It will be loaded with notes, outlines, maps and vocabulary puzzles.  If anyone out there has any Tennessee activities or Tennessee tidbits, that you would like to share, send them in.

Have a great weekend!!

We finished Sec. 2 in Ch.5 today. We had a very good discussion about the economy, taxes, and what problems a growing population poses. Wednesday we will begin Sec. 3. It is short so it will not take too long. Then on Thursday we will review big time for Friday’s test.

We had some reports given Monday by several teams.  Two of them were presented using Powerpoint.  They were wonderful!  The kids were very impressed too.  I told all my classes that if they ever wanted to do a report in that form, it would be welcomed.  It is the wave of the future, we might as well get familiar with the technology.

Last day of the first grading period is the 12th!
